Profile

The 21 suburbs of Banyule lie between 7 and 21 kilometres north east of central Melbourne.

The Yarra River runs along the City's south border while the west is defined by Darebin Creek.

The City is primarily a residential area, renowned for its relaxed living, abundant parklands and quality educational, health and recreational facilities. There are important industrial areas in Heidelberg West, Greensborough, Briar Hill and Bundoora, as well as a major medical precinct in Heidelberg and the Simpson Barracks in Yallambie.

Banyule was also home to the 1956 Olympic Village and Heidelberg School of Australian Impressionism.
