A letter to my younger self

Jillian: This is a message to myself when I was about to begin my teaching career.

Judi: Dear Judi, congratulations on your first day as a teacher.

This journey will be as rewarding as it is challenging.

Jillian: 50 years will pass before you know it, and each day you will be grateful to have the absolute privilege of teaching so many amazing students.

Enjoy the gifts they bring daily and feel proud that you have worked with so many colleagues to shape the lives of many.

Judi: Your warmth, enthusiasm and passion are your greatest tool.

Each child in your classroom looks to you for guidance and inspiration.

So lead with kindness, patience and empathy.

Jillian: Your days will never be boring. The absolute excitement and feelings of apprehension, starting with your first teaching position, will continue throughout your teaching career.

Judi: Embrace the chaos that comes with learning and find joy in the small victories.

Stay organised. Remain flexible, and always be prepared to adapt and learn.

Jillian: There will always be a balance between celebrations and challenges.

You will never feel alone as the collegiate support, challenge and encouragement within your schools and beyond will ensure that you are able to develop in all aspects of your teaching and leadership.

Judi: Trust your instincts. Lean on your own colleagues and remember why you chose this path.

Jillian: Trust yourself that you have made the best decisions for yourself and for your school community. The friendships you make will continue throughout your life.

Judi: You're going to make a profound impact.

Warmly, your future self.
