Teach the Future - Teachers change lives

[On-screen text: Teach the Future, Ms Singh's reaction]

Trish Singh: What I think makes a good teacher is you knowing your children, knowing them on a personal level and an academic level.

So being able to challenge them, but also know that having a personal connection with them is the foundation of any learning that they do.

The children at Glen Waverley Primary School are incredible, they just bring me so much joy every single day, they look to be challenged and they just love learning, they have such a dep passion.

Producer: We've got a little video here,

Trish: OK

Producer: Of some of the things they've said

Trish: Yep

Producer: And I just wanted to play that for you.

Trish: OK

Producer: So, plus those in…

Student 1: So my favourite teacher is Miss Singh.

Student 2: I really connected with Miss Singh.

Student 3: Yeah, probably Miss Singh, because she understands the way we learn, and she knows how to teach us the way that we learn.

Student 4: Uh, she's really nice. And caring.

Student 5: She just makes us feel like we're all like, appreciated, because she always makes sure we all share our ideas.

Student 6: She understands lots of kids, and understands their feelings. Thanks for teaching us to become a better person.

Student 4: My message to Miss Singh is thank you very much for teaching me. Umm, you're the best.

Trish: It's, yeah, it's incredible. The thing about teaching is that you never truly know your impact until many years later and you hear, even when I speak to adults now they'll always have this one teacher that they remember, and to hear these children say that she makes you feel like you matter. She knows how you learn and she's connected to you.

Yeah, it's really special. I'm so incredibly thankful that I get to hear from these children. It makes me feel humbled and grateful that I am where I am.
