Cladding Safety Victoria

This four storey apartment block in Dandenong is undergoing full cladding removal and replacement.

Work is underway to remove and replace extreme-risk expanded polystyrene (EPS) cladding.

[Christian Schwaerzler, project manager] "Things are going really well, the scaffolding went up fairly quickly despite the restrictions that COVID had placed upon us. We've got limited crews on site but the upside is we've found that the existing materials and the existing cladding is actually coming off better than we suspected."

[Matt Twisleton, owners corporation administrator]: "It's a huge relief to have this work started and the contractors are absolutely first class. The product going back on, it also looks white, it's a concrete aerated panel. If you're stood on site you'll get people go 'thanks so much for everything you do'."

[Christian]: "They're all really really enthusiastic about the fact that something's actually happening and can see the light at the end of the tunnel. The positivity is really really palatable."

[Dan O'Brien, Cladding Safety Victoria CEO]: "By June 30th 2021 I expect that we'll have 200 buildings underway and the following year I want to get another 200 private buildings underway. We believe we can meet those targets, we've had a lot of challenges already and we're successfully getting through them and that's a credit to the team that's working so hard to get this done and they're so committed to the task and getting it done."
