RMIT University Advanced Diploma of Interpreting Scholarship

To be eligible for a scholarship you must:

• live in Victoria
• speak Arabic, Greek, Italian, Persian, Spanish or Vietnamese
• be an Australian citizen, or have permanent residency (consideration will be given to applications from people seeking asylum)
• be undertaking the RMIT University Advanced Diploma of Interpreting in one of the targeted languages offered for 2025
• remain enrolled and meet attendance requirements for each unit at RMIT University for the duration of the program
• apply for the program online through RMIT and upload required evidence by 7 February 2025 (Please note: applications may close early once all available scholarships have been fully allocated.)

This program cannot be deferred.

Step 1 – Apply to RMIT University

To apply to study for the Advanced Diploma of Interpreting in one of the target languages:

• Visit the RMIT University website.
• Complete an online ‘Direct Application’.
  • You must indicate the language you are applying by completing a selection task.
  • The link to submit your selection task will appear on the applicant dashboard after you have submitted your application.
  • You will receive a confirmation email from RMIT University when your application has been completed.

Step 2 – Meet the entry requirements

• All applicants must meet both the English and LOTE language requirements. You may also be interviewed if further information is required.

The scholarship places are on a 'first come, first served' basis. This means priority is given to applicants based on the order they apply and demonstrate they meet the eligibility requirements. Applications may close early if all places are allocated.

Please note: We require a minimum number of participants for each language. In cases of low enrolment, students will instead be offered the option to enrol in the Introduction to Interpreting Skill Set.

Students who successfully complete the Advanced Diploma of Interpreting program will be eligible to sit the external Certified Interpreter test run by the National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters (NAATI). The scholarship will also cover one sitting of the Certified Interpreter test fee in full.

Graduates must sit the test within approximately 6 months of completing the program.
