The My Money Conversation Kit is designed to encourage women, gender diverse and non-binary individuals to be more confident about making financial decisions, and to support those who may be experiencing financial abuse.
Jennifer joined the Minister for Prevention of Family Violence Gabrielle Williams at its launch to raise awareness of the new resource.
She said: “Financial abuse is a key form of family violence as perpetrators seek to control or remove a women’s financial resources. Finances can also act as an obstacle to leaving an abusive relationship, as not having financial independence can keep women trapped or force them to return to a violent partner.”
The My Money Conversation Kit was created by the Women’s Information and Referral Exchange (WIRE) – the only state-wide free information and referral service for Victorian women, non-binary and gender-diverse people.
The Victorian Government provided WIRE with $200,000 to develop and pilot a series of workshops across Victoria to better understand the financial needs of these groups.
The kit, which includes a money guide and organiser, can help people find services that can help advocate and inform them if they feel that they are being mistreated or being kept in the dark about their financial situation.
Download the kit by visiting the WIRE website.
