Subject: New Funding Opportunity – Department of Families, Fairness and Housing are pleased to announce a new Victorian Government funding opportunity to provide carers employment support.

Actions/critical dates:

  • Applications are now open and close on Tuesday 7 September 2021. Funding is expected to be provided to grant recipients in November 2021.
  • A virtual information session about this funding opportunity will be held on Monday 23 August from 2.30pm - 3.30pm. Please register your interest by emailing victoriancarerstrategy@dhhs.vic.gov.au.

The Victorian Government’s carers support grant program is focused on supporting carers who wish to build their skills and pursue their employment goals while maintaining their care role. Funded organisations will assist carers to build their confidence and skills to pursue employment or training in flexible ways by delivering a range of tailored supports; from work-readiness mentoring through to system navigation, practical assistance and post-employment support.

Employment and carer support providers are encouraged to apply, including:

  • Support for Carers Program (SCP) providers
  • carer support organisations and peak bodies
  • Home and Community Care Program for Younger People (HACC-PYP) providers
  • local government health and community health services
  • not-for-profit disability and aged care service providers
  • volunteer programs
  • community organisations
  • Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCOs)
  • neighbourhood houses
  • TAFE and Learn Local providers
  • employment transition support services.

Partnerships and collaborative approaches are encouraged.

The carers employment support funding is a key element of the Victorian Government’s 2-year, $4.6 million Carers Employment initiative, which aims to increase support for carers to enter paid employment or vocational training in flexible ways, enabling increased choice and opportunities for carers to balance their care-role responsibilities with work or study.
