About the Portable Long Service Authority

Ensuring portability of long service for workers in community services, contract cleaning and security.

The Portable Long Service Benefits Authority (the Authority) is an independent statutory body established to oversee the Long Service Benefits Portability Act 2018 (the Act).

The Act, along with the Long Service Benefits Portability Regulations 2020, creates a scheme allowing long service benefits to be transferable for workers in the community services, contract cleaning, and security industries.

The Portable Long Service Benefits Scheme (the Scheme) allows workers to accrue long service benefits based on their total time in an industry, not with a single employer.

Since 2019, the Scheme has become one of Australia’s largest portable long service leave programs.

The Authority has a Governing Board appointed by the Minister for Industrial Relations.
