Victoria has committed to achieve 95% of energy generation via renewables by 2035, and reach net zero emissions by 2045 – the most ambitious climate targets in Australia.
Renewable energy is one of the key pillars of a clean economy along with climate mitigation and adaptation and the circular economy.
The net zero transition will result in an increased demand for existing occupations, leading to both the emergence of new specialist jobs and skills, and changes in the types of skills required across established industries.
To support transition acceleration, we are leading work to ensure our future workforce is equipped with the necessary clean economy skills and knowledge.
We are doing this by:
- clarifying demand for clean economy skills
- providing targeted advice to attract skilled workers to emerging industries – including solar, wind and battery energy
- exploring potential challenges and opportunities
- building leadership and management capability
- facilitating professional development of workers.
There are numerous pathways into the clean economy, including the following Certificate level courses which attract the Skills First government subsidy for eligible students:
- Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician(opens in a new window)
- Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology(opens in a new window)
- Certificate III in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration(opens in a new window).
The Course in Working Safely on Rooftop Renewable Energy Systems(opens in a new window) skill set can help you up-skill, and also attracts the Skills First government subsidy.
