E-waste ban

Diverting e-waste from landfill enables reuse of valuable materials

What is E-waste?

E-waste is any item that has a plug, battery or power cord and includes e-cigarettes, televisions, computers, mobile phones, battery-operated toys, kitchen appliances and white goods.

Since 2019, it has been illegal to put e-waste in household rubbish or landfill in Victoria.

Keeping e-waste out of landfills protects the environment and human health and allows the recovery of valuable materials for reuse.

How to dispose of e-waste

Disposal of e-waste in general waste and landfills can cause fires and release hazardous chemicals into the air, soil and water.

Separation and correct disposal of e-waste reduces the risk of harm to human health and the environment. It enables the recovery of valuable materials for reuse, contributing to our transition to a circular economy.
