Review of superannuation arrangements for MPs

The Tribunal has reviewed and reported on the superannuation arrangements for Members of the Parliament of Victoria.

Pursuant to section 39(1) of the Victorian Independent Remuneration Tribunal and Improving Parliamentary Standards Act 2019 (Vic) (VIRTIPS Act), the Tribunal reviewed and reported on the superannuation arrangements for existing and former Members of the Parliament of Victoria (MPs) under Parts 3 and 4 of the Parliamentary Salaries, Allowances and Superannuation Act 1968 (Vic).


Review and report

The Tribunal completed its review and report in accordance with the requirements of the VIRTIPS Act.

The paper set out the Tribunal’s proposed analytical framework for conducting the review, provided an overview of the existing superannuation arrangements (including differences between the superannuation schemes) and sought feedback on several questions.

Publication of submissions

The Tribunal may use information provided in submissions in its Report.

All submissions will be published in full or in summary form on the Tribunal’s website, unless the person or body making the submission requests that certain information contained in the submission not be published. In that instance, the person or body must identify the information that should not be published and the reasons that information should not be published. That information will then either not be published or, following consultation with the person or body, be published in an appropriate form

Submissions that contain offensive or defamatory comments, or which are outside the scope of the review, will not be published.

The Tribunal may receive a request under the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (Vic). Any such requests will be determined in accordance with that Act which has provisions designed to protect personal information and information given in confidence.
