The best of Victoria’s adult and community education sector were celebrated recently at the Learn Local Awards Gala, which recognises the life-changing work happening across the state’s not-for-profit Learn Local education providers.
The awards celebrate excellence across 8 categories, with this year’s winners demonstrating how powerful foundational skills training can be, turning lives around and opening doors to new careers and opportunities.
Nicole Cusma took home the Ro Allen Award for Learn Local Pre-accredited Learner (Skills for study and life) after rediscovering her passion for learning through undertaking digital literacy courses following health challenges. She’s now pursuing accredited training toward a career in community and mental health services.
Payton Reid won the Learn Local Pre-accredited Trainer Award for her work helping people overcome barriers to employment. Her programs support learners developing skills for retail, hospitality, cleaning, maintenance and security roles, making a real difference for some of the most marginalised members of her community.
Kyabram Community and Learning Centre Inc was named Small Learn Local Provider of the Year, while Community College Gippsland claimed the Large Provider award, and Laverton Community Education Centre won the Learn Local Innovation Award for its cutting-edge approach to community education.
With more than 200 locations across Victoria, Learn Local providers offer affordable courses and personalised support to nearly 30,000 Victorians each year. They’re helping people build essential work and life skills, strengthen community connections, and break down barriers to training and employment.
