The Women Deliver 2023 Conference (WD2023) ran from 17-20 July in Kigali, Rwanda.
Oceanic Pacific Regional delegation to Rwanda
Sixty-five delegates from the Oceanic Pacific region attended WD2023. This was the largest delegation in the conference's history to attend from our region. They represented the diversity of our locations, identities and sectors.
Delegates included grassroots advocates, civil society activists and representatives from:
- government
- private sector
- multilateral organisations.
The delegates showcased the priorities outlined in the Oceanic Pacific Regional Outcomes Statement.
The Statement was developed during the regional convening.
Oceanic Pacific delegates spoke at plenary and concurrent sessions, side events and pre-conferences. They led sessions including:
- Regional solidarity and intersectional gender justice: Lessons from the Oceanic Pacific Regional Convening
- Building bridges: From big ocean nations to global movements.
A diverse group of gender equality stakeholders from the Oceanic Pacific region planned, promoted and delivered the regional convening.

Oceanic Pacific Convening event - Melbourne

More than 380 attendees gathered to elevate the voices of women and girls from the Oceanic Pacific region.
The event theme was Sisters in solidarity: Our stories, spaces and solutions.
Key themes discussed at the event included:
- Indigenous solidarity
- cultural sovereignty and self-determination
- decolonisation
- intersectionality
- gender data and evidence
- climate justice
- leadership and representation
- resourcing for women’s rights
- care work and economic justice
- gender-based violence
- sexual and reproductive health and rights.
Pacific Convening event - Fiji
11 and 12 May 2023
Pacific Harbour
Gender equality advocates and activists from across the Pacific region met to have critical conversations about gender equality priorities and how to amplify them. There were panel discussions, workshops and networking sessions.
Advocates and activists exchanged ideas and perspectives on coordinating collective action to address the issues faced by girls and women in the region.
Delegates were nominated to attend the event. The nomination process ensured diverse representation, including voices from marginalised communities, to foster an inclusive and meaningful dialogue.
The top five priorities identified through the Pacific Convening were:
- climate justice
- decolonisation
- ending gender-based violence and violence against women and girls in all their diversity
- women's economic equity and safe, sustainable livelihoods
- resourcing for women's human rights.
