Wildlife licences and permits

Apply for a private or commercial wildlife licence or an authority to control wildlife.

All wildlife is protected in Victoria

We ensure that everyone in Victoria complies with environmental laws. To protect wildlife, we issue licences and permits under legislation.

Once a licence and permit has been issued, we ensure holders adhere to their conditions.

Without the appropriate licence, permit or authorisation some activities may be an offence.

People will be held to account if they don’t have the appropriate licences or permits.

New regulations - Wildlife Regulations 2024

The Wildlife Regulations 2013 expired on 16 June 2024 and have been replaced by the Wildlife Regulations 2024.

As part of this replacement, minor changes have been made to the Wildlife Regulations, as well as some changes in structure and language. A summary of regulatory changes that may affect your licence is available on the wildlife website.

There have been no changes to wildlife listed in the schedules, however, the schedules have been renumbered.

The regulations set out the terms and conditions of all wildlife licences. Your wildlife licence may also include additional conditions which will be specified on your licence. It is the responsibility of all licence holders to become familiar with, and comply with, the Wildlife Regulations 2024 and the conditions of the licence.

If you have questions regarding the new Wildlife Regulations 2024, please contact the DEECA Customer Contact Centre on 136 186 to ensure your question is appropriately allocated to the right team for a response.
