Premiers' Reading Challenge: information for early childhood services and parents

Information on how young children can take part in the Premiers’ Reading Challenge.

  • parents of young children not attending early childhood services
  • early childhood services.

Registering a young child – parents/guardians

Parents and guardians with young children not attending an early childhood service can register their children to take part in the Challenge and get a certificate.

At the start of the Challenge:

  1. Go to the Challenge application.
  2. Under 'Home based readers and early childhood participants' , select 'Register for the Challenge'.
  3. Select the ‘I am a parent/guardian’ option.
  4. Enter your name in the Parent/guardian name field.
  5. Enter your email address.
  6. Confirm your email address.
  7. Complete the security questions. You’ll need these at the end of the Challenge.
  8. Select Register.

You’ll get a welcome email confirming your registration to take part in the Challenge.

If you do not get your confirmation email:

Once registered, start reading books to your children every day. They need to experience a minimum of 40 books during the Challenge.

Registering a young child – early childhood services

Early childhood services can register children to take part in the Challenge and get a certificate. Parental consent forms are not needed.

At the start of the Challenge:

  1. Go to the Challenge application.
  2. Under 'Home based readers and early childhood participants' , select 'Register for the Challenge'.
  3. Start typing the name of your service in the Early childhood service name field. Select your service from the list.
  4. Confirm the email address associated with your service.
  5. Complete the security questions. You’ll need these at the end of the Challenge.
  6. Select Register.

If your service does not appear in the main list, select the ‘I am a service that is not listed’ link. Then:

  1. Enter the name of your service in the Early childhood service name field.
  2. Enter the email address for your service.
  3. Confirm your email address.
  4. Complete the security questions. You’ll need these at the end of the Challenge.
  5. Select Register.

You’ll get a welcome email confirming your registration to take part in the Challenge.

If you do not get your confirmation email:

The end of the Challenge

One month before the Challenge closes, you’ll get an email with information on how to:

  • finalise your participation in the Challenge
  • order printed certificates to be mailed to your chosen address.

You must complete this process before the final day of the Challenge.

The email contains a unique link that will take you to a page where you’ll answer the security questions you set up when you registered.

  1. Select the link provided in the email.
  2. Answer your security questions to log in.
  3. Confirm that 40 books have been read and you met the Challenge target.
  4. An ‘Upload’ button will appear. Select Upload and follow the instructions to submit the names of the children who need certificates.
  5. Confirm or give your postal address details for the printed certificates to be delivered to.
