Project overview
A new tram maintenance and stabling facility will be built on part of the old Victoria University site at the corner of Williamson and Hampstead roads in Maidstone.
The new facility will used to clean, stable and maintain Melbourne’s next-generation G Class trams, which will start rolling out locally on routes 57, 59 and 82 from 2025.
The project will also extend the local tram line on Hampstead and Williamson roads with the trams accessing the facility on Hampstead Road.
Works progress
Our crews have been busy working since April 2023 to prepare the site and nearby roads for the new tram maintenance and stabling facility. We have:
- Excavated 28,000 tonnes of soil to create the foundations of the new buildings and internal access road
- Laid 700 metres of new underground services at the intersection of Hampstead, Williamson and Wests roads
- Safely demolished 25 buildings within the site
- Grown our workforce to over 280 workers during peak periods.
