Professional learning resources

In 2021, we partnered with Early Childhood Australia (ECA) to deliver a series of free online professional learning programs.

Guiding children’s behaviour – regulation, respect and relationships

Webinar 1

This session introduces educators to current Australian research on early childhood education. The research looks at the impact of self-regulation on children’s learning and children's behaviour. It also looks at adjustment, wellbeing and behaviour. The research explores these topics through developmental and socio-ecological lenses.

Webinar 2

This session is with Sue Grieshaber and host Catharine Hydon. It looks at pedagogical documentation as both a process and a product. The session gives examples of pedagogical documentation and explores different forms of documentation.

Webinar 3

This session is hosted by Catharine Hydon and Cathrine Nielsen-Hewitt. It covers the 'window of tolerance', responding to individual children and promoting self-regulation. It also explores the role of the learning environment and self-regulation in children.

Webinar 4

This final session in the series is a panel hosted by Catharine Hydon. The panel discusses strategies that have worked in practise to support children's self-regulation. They also reflect on how they work as a team to develop and use consistent behaviour guidance approaches.

Connecting assessment to practice

Webinar 1

The first webinar in this series is a conversation between Jane Page and Catharine Hydon. It focuses on assessment for learning and using the early years planning cycle to support assessment. It also covers the gathering of evidence of children’s learning to capture progress. This progress aligns with the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework (VEYLDF).

Webinar 2

This session, with Sue Grieshaber and host Catharine Hydon, looks at pedagogical documentation as both a process and a product draws on examples of pedagogical documentation, and explores different aspects of documentation.

Webinar 3

This session is with Susanne Garvis in conversation with Catharine Hydon. It looks at an international perspective of assessment in the early years. Connections are drawn between Swedish practices and Australian contexts, using the VEYLDF.

Webinar 4

This is the final session of the series. It is a panel conversation with Catharine Hydon, bringing research and practice together. Early childhood teachers share practical assessment strategies and tips specific to their local contexts. The panel discuss these topics in reference to research and the VEYLDF.
