About the Online TLDS tool

The Online TLDS tool, accessed through the Insight Assessment Platform, makes it easier for early childhood teachers to complete and share TLDS with schools to support effective transitions.

The Online TLDS tool allows early childhood services to send TLDS directly to the child's school, where it can be linked to the child's individual profile. As the child progresses through school, additional assessments of learning (such as the English and Mathematics online interviews) are added to this profile. This supports continuity of learning and provides receiving teachers with a more holistic picture of the child's learning and development history.

Prior to using the Online TLDS tool to write TLDS, early childhood teachers should provide families with the Introduction to transition information sheet: Resources for families. This information sheet informs families that via the Online TLDS tool, information about their child will be completed, shared and stored on an online system (the Insight Assessment Platform). It outlines the privacy and security measures taken to ensure their child’s data is kept safe. Despite these measures, some families may not want their child’s TLDS completed via the Online TLDS tool. If parents actively choose to opt out of using the online system you can download the electronic TLDS below.

Access the Online TLDS tool

TLDS are completed using the Online TLDS tool which is hosted on the Insight Assessment Platform.

All funded kindergarten services, including long day care services, have been sent Online TLDS login details via their service email address, as registered on the National Quality Agenda IT System (NQAITS).

Services who did not receive an email with log in details should first check if their email address details are correct on the NQAITS.

Any changes to the service email addresses registered in the NQAITS will trigger an email with new login details for the Online TLDS within approximately 24 hours.

The email will be from insight@linkit.com (a no-reply mailbox).

If you have any difficulties accessing the Online TLDS tool after receiving your login details, please contact the State Library Victoria IT helpdesk (open Monday to Friday, 9 am to 5 pm) on 03 8664 7001 or toll-free 1800 629 835.

Please note that any Transition Learning and Development Statements created by your service in 2023 (for children attending school in 2024) are still available on the platform in a read-only format.

Online TLDS training

Online training will be available in 2024.

The Online TLDS training is designed for kindergarten staff looking for support in using the Online TLDS tool. Please note that the training will only cover how to use the online tool and will not cover what to write in a TLDS.

Online TLDS training is available to kindergarten directors, teachers, and educators responsible for completing TLDS. Sessions will be provided free of charge and delivered in small groups of 10 people in online 2-hour sessions.

We suggest that you review the support materials before booking into training.

For further information, please visit the Online TLDS training from the State Library of Victoria website.

Professional development to support writing TLDS

Knowing what information to include in a TLDS and how to write statements using a strength-based approach supports improved continuity of learning for all children transitioning into primary school.

This 90-minute workshop, facilitated by early childhood experts and designed for early childhood teachers and Prep teachers new to the TLDS, discusses key features of a positive transition to school, writing the TLDS using a strength-based approach, involving children and families in the transition process, the benefits of play-based and inquiry-led learning, and planning for the following year.

TLDS and the Early Years Assessment and Learning Tool (EYALT)

For services that are using the EYALT in 2024, guidance has been developed to support kindergarten teachers to use information provided by the EYALT to complete the TLDS.
